Workshops & Master classes
On tour with the Point Zero Company, Jean-Michel d’Hoop regularly gives master classes and organises workshops for the actors from the cities and countries they perform in.
These encounters are generally conducted by the Belgian actors from the play which is on tour.
What underlies this process is the encounter between professional artists from different cultures and practices, with the presupposition that we can all be enriched by our specificities.
Point Zero doesn’t want to limit itself to presenting its performances around the world, but means to meet the actors/artists from the countries they visit as much as possible. Shared synergies, artistic projects, long term discussions, desires to create are often born from these encounters.
These encounters are mostly based on the learning of the technic of manipulating a puppet, on the relationship between an actor and his puppet. No prior training with puppets is needed to take part in this encounter, but we aim to work with professional artists as much as possible. It is indeed about actors meeting, rather than puppeteers meeting.
Here, the puppet is considered as a potential instrument to develop the actor’s range and make him discover new horizons.
The duration of these workshops can vary. From 3 hours to 2 weeks. All arrangements are conceivable depending on the possibilities.
They are limited to 12 participants.
Working time always begins with a physical warm-up before moving to manipulations and improvisations.
Therefore, it is important that each participant has a loose outfit that enable the “sports” practice.
These workshops require a space of about 10 meters X 8 meters, and sound equipment.
A translator can be useful in case the participants don’t all speak English.
Sometimes, at the end of the workshop, we take the puppets out in public spaces. And each time, incredible things happen…
